METU NCC supports the interaction of all cultures and the social and cultural exchange between the local community and the international students. International Student Office plays an effective role in assisting foreign students to get accustomed to the Cyprus culture and its beautiful landscape. Appreciating the diversity that international students bring with themselves, ISO serves as a beneficial platform for these students to plan and organize social and cultural activities.

SOCIAL AND CULTURAL ACTIVITIES

I-Host Family Program:

The Host Family program at METU NCC International Student Office is designed to encourage interactions between overseas students and local families in Northern Cyprus.

As a host, you might invite your guest student out to dine together, to explore historical places on the Island, and to family events such as birthdays, weddings, etc. We strongly encourage our host families to be flexible in organizing excursions not to disrupt the student's studies.

As METU NCC International Student Office, our main goal in this program is to:

Provide opportunities for our international students to be exposed to Cypriot culture,

Help our international students deal with periods of homesickness they may experience after arriving to METU NCC campus,

Build a warm long-lasting multi-cultural friendship between international students and local host families.

We expect both the students and the host families will have great opportunities through this program to get familiar with different cultures, and understand different world perspectives.

II-Costume Ball:

International Students' Office in collaboration with International Students' Association, holds a traditional 'Costume Ball Night' at the end of every Spring semester. We auspiciously invite you to join us for a colorful night with *Great Music*Best Costume Prizes*Disco Games*Free Drinks and lots more!!

III-International Food Festival

International Students' Association proudly presents the annual International Food Festival, where one can find delicious food from over 12 different countries. The International Food Festival brings over 700 people to METU NCC, including students from other universities in Cyprus as well. Its' a multi-cultural night and a feast that celebrates cultural diversity and ethnic culinary art.

IV- Traditional Nights

International students are an integeral part of METU NCC community. With the help of International Students' Association, 'Traditional Nights' have become an essential platform for METU NCC students to exhibit and appreciate their cultural and ethnic diversity.

V- Writing Competition: International Experiences

Antonio Joao won the grand prize (200TL) in the I. International Essay Competition, with his essay titled "Living Abroad"

VI- Karaoke Night

A Karaoke Night, organized in cooperation with Radio ODTÜ Northern Cyprus Studios and International Student Office, was held on 17th April at METU NCC Vitamin Bar. International students showed great interest in the event, where various songs were sung in Turkish and English as well as in many other languages. First and second winners were presented with dinners for two at different restaurants while the third won a 50 TL shopping voucher from Serin Market. All other participants won METU NCC mugs. All participants left happily after singing songs and getting their prizes.
