Data Network
The campus is equipmented with a high performance gigabit ehternet data backbone. The backbone network consists of ethernet switches with gigabit uplinks and single mode fiber optic cabling. The backbone network provides high speed computer connectivity and telephone instrastructure.
The end user connectivity is at least 100Mbps on the desktop.
Wide Area Connection
NC Campus has a 622 Mbps STM4 SDH connection to the local telecom office with a single mode fiber optic cable of 8 km. This connection hosts both the 30 off-campus PSTN connections and the 34 Mbps E3 ATM wide area connection.
The campus has a 16 Mbps main campus connection through an ATM PVC over the E3 line. This is a quality guaranteed connection (CBR – constant bit rate) for the main
campus.
Also we have another 34 Mbit connection for dormitories.
The Internet connection is provided by the main campus, which has a dark fiber connection to the National Research Network backbone, Ulaknet. Ulaknet has a 622 Mbps connection to Geant, European Academic and Research bacbone and 345 Mbps TTNET Internet connection. The main campus also hosts another 34 Mbps standby TTNET Internet connection for emergencies.
Dormitory Network Access
All the dormitory rooms has 100Mbps ethernet connections for every student. This connection provides access to the high speed campus backbone and to the Internet. UTP patch cable is provided by the dormitory management.
This service is totaly free of charge for students. Users of the service must comply with the dorminary network

Student Affairs Information System
Student affairs automation can be accessed through the web site http://oibs.metu.edu.tr/ . The online registration system is used at the course registrations and add/drop periods. The information system provides several functionalities through different user interfaces for students, lecturers and advisors. This online student affairs system usage minimizes paper work.
E-mail services
METU supplies e-mail accounts to every staff and student. The student mail addresses are like e[student-number]
metu.edu.tr (student number without the last digit). If not known, passwords can be obtained from the ICT office. Only in-person applications are accepted.
METU mail servers support SMTP, POP3 and IMAP4 protocols (mail.metu.edu.tr). The easiest way to start using the mail facilities is the METU-Mail ( https://metumail.metu.edu.tr/ ).
E-mail Groups

interface can be accessed with a free membership.
More information about the usage of the e-mail groups can be found at http://e-list.cc.metu.edu.tr .
Other Computing Services
As the NC campus is electronically the part of the main campus (same IP space and broadband campus-to-campus connection, central user authantication) all informatic services at the main campus are also offered to the users at the NC campus.
A short list and links for the main campus computing services can be found at http://www.metu.edu/services/computing.php .
