Admission For International Students

Students who have graduated from high schools, lyceums or equivalent institutions and who satisfy the application criteria may apply for undergraduate programs in Middle East Technical University, Northern Cyprus Campus. There are a predetermined number of places for foreign applicants for each of the undergraduate programs of METU NCC.

Applicants must not hold the nationality of Republic of Turkey or the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, to be eligible for admission within the quota allocated for international students. (Dual nationality is not accepted either).

ABOUT ADMISSION AND FACILITIES

Students who have graduated from high schools, lyceums or equivalent institutions and who satisfy the application criteria may apply for undergraduate programs in Middle East Technical University, Northern Cyprus Campus. There are a predetermined number of places for foreign applicants for each of the undergraduate programs of METU NCC.

Applicants must not hold the nationality of Republic of Turkey or the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, to be eligible for admission within the quota allocated for international students. (Dual nationality is not accepted either).

Who can apply?

You can apply if you:

•  are a graduate or last year (senior year) student of an accredited secondary education institution (high school, lyceum or equivalent)

•  hold citizenship of countries other than Turkey or the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (Students with dual citizenship involving Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus should take the Turkish Student Selection Examination (ÖSS) for placement in these programs.)

Required Documents For Application

•   High School Diploma : Attested/notarized copy of a high school diploma in English or in Turkish. (An Equivalence Letter from the Turkish Ministry of Education, certifying that your diploma is equivalent to a Turkish High School Diploma, will be required during registration )

•   Application Form

•   Official Transcript : An official transcript (sealed and approved by your secondary education institution) showing your courses and grades and its translated copy (English or Turkish).

•   Exam Result: Attested copy of the exam result that is being used for application (YÖS, SAT, GCE, Tawjihi, etc.) (Please see the "Acceptable Exam Results" section below for explanation.)

Acceptable examinations and minimum scores to be eligible to apply

•  YÖS (University Entrance Examination for International Students, Turkey ) : A score of at least 45 from YÖS examination is required.
         

  • YÖS 2009
  • •  SAT Reasoning:

    A minimum total score of 1000 out of 1600 from math and critical reading exams and minimum math score of 620 out of 800.

    •  Tawjihi (For students from Jordan and Palestine):

     A minimum average score of 70% from Scientific Stream for engineering programs and Literary Stream for the other programs.

    •  GCE:

    At least three A-Levels and one O-Level or at least two A-Levels and four O-Levels, one of which is related to the program applied for. (Two “Subsidiary Advanced” level subjects are equal to one “Advanced” level subject.)

    •  Baccalaureate Libanais (For Lebanese students):

    A minimum diploma grade of 60 (out of 100) from the Scientific Stream for engineering programs and Literary Stream for the other programs.

    • International Baccalaureate:

     A minimum total score of 28.

    •  International Science Olympiads:

     A gold, silver or bronze medal from one of those Olympiads that are recognized by the Scientific and Technical Research Council of the Turkey (TUBITAK).

    •  University Entrance Examination in China (Gaokao):

     A score of minimum 450 (out of 750) from the stream related to the program applied for.

    Al-Shahada-Al-Thanawiyya (Baccalaureate, for students from Syria):

     For applications to engineering programs, a minimum score of 180 (out of 240) from Scientific Stream, and for applications to other programs a minimum score of 170 (out of 240) from Literary Stream are required.

     • Diplome Debirestan and Pisdanesgahi (for students from Iran)

     A minimum average grade of 15 (out of 20) from "Diplome Debirestan" and a minimum "Pisdanesgahi" graduation score of 15 (out of 20)

    National University Test (For students from Kazakhstan):

    A score of minimum 80 out of 120.

     

    Language Requirements

    The table below gives the equivalence of scores obtained from METU-EPE and from the other recognized international English proficiency examinations. Line 1 is to be checked for exemption from English Language Preparatory Program for all undergraduate programs except SUNY New Paltz Business Administration Dual Program, for which line 2 applies.

    Corresponding grades from recognized examinations are also accepted for exemption from English language must courses

    EVALUATION and RESULTS

    Candidates' application documents will be evaluated by the relevant Admission Committee. Students accepted to a program will receive a Letter of Acceptance from METU.

    STUDENT VISAS(Please Check: http://www.ncc.metu.edu.tr/studaffairs/immigration_update.php)

    We would like to remind you that all flights to Northern Cyprus are connected via Turkey. Therefore, depending upon your nationality, you may need a VISA for both the Republic of Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). You may contact nearest Turkish Embassy/Consulate ( www.mfa.gov.tr ) to get advise on the VISA requirements of both Turkey and TRNC, and complete VISA formalities by presenting the letter of acceptance issued by the METU Northern Cyprus Campus.   

    MEDICAL SERVICES & HEALTH INSURANCE

    The campus has a Medical Center for the primary healthcare of students. Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus requires all international students to enroll in Health Insurance System which covers emergency treatment, clinical examination, as well as costs of hospitalization. The 50 USD annual fee for this compulsory health insurance is to be paid during registration.

    HEALTH REPORT

    In accordance with the TRNC Laws, in order to complete the registration procedure all international students are required to submit a medical report from an approved health centre in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, indicating that he/she is not a donor or sufferer of Tuberculosis (including a lung X-ray), HIV.

    If the prospective student can not submit a health report indicating that he/she is not a donor or sufferer of the above mentioned epidemics, he/she will not be registered to a program in METU NCC.

    DORMITORIES

    The METU Northern Cyprus Campus offers on-campus dormitories to its undergraduate students.

    Living expenses including food, transportation, etc. per month are additional and can vary between 500-600 US Dollars.
