Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Student Chapter at METU NCC is established.

The application of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering students of METU Northern Cyprus Campus is approved by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Board of Directors in June 2009, and “SPE METU NCC Student Chapter” is formally established.   The student chapter wil be operating under SPE Turkey Section in Ankara. The activities of the Student Chapter will include forming networks with oil and gas industry professionals, technology discussions in the industry, receiving industry sponsored scholarships, inviting guest speakers and organizing seminars, conferences and field trips.

In May 2009, SPE Student Members of METU NCC held a General Assembly meeting and elected the officers:

Vice President: Sergio Cabral

Secretary: Işıl Alboğa

Treasurer: Emrah Gürel

Prof. Ender Okandan of METU acts as the Academic Advisor of the SPE METU NCC Student Chapter.
